After years of community visioning, Sunnydale is now undergoing a transformative construction plan that will create new homes, streets, parks, and amenities for youth and families. At the heart of the transformation plan is the belief that a key to family success is affordable homes in safe neighborhoods where residents are supported to learn, play and grow.

Sunnydale is undergoing a physical transformation, including:

  • Approximately 1,000 new affordable apartment homes for each existing household and for new residents and 700 new homes for middle income households
  • New state of the art Boys and Girls Club for school age youth, and Wu Yee Children’s Services and Felton Institute early childhood education centers for infants, toddlers and pre-school children
  • Over 20,000 new square feet for neighborhood recreation and programs including a gymnasium and activity space for sports, arts and learning
  • Neighborhood retail space for local businesses, a health and wellness center and 4 new acres of parks and gardens surrounded by beautiful natural landscape with views of the Bay

A partnership

The transformation of Sunnydale is through a long-term public/private partnership led by the San Francisco Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development (MOHCD), the HOPE SF Initiative, San Francisco Housing Authority (SFHA), Mercy Housing California, and Related California. Sunnydale is also home to a large group of deeply invested organizations, who work with residents, neighbors and partners to meet community needs.
